Simon Belperio is an Italian-German photographer born in Germany in the early nineties. Coming from a mixed background, he appreciates awareness for ambiguities and intercultural communication. He began to photograph and take notes of the world around him at a very young age and was raised in a high-control religious environment, which he left at the age of 25.
His upbringing and the experience of questioning well-known structures and belief systems led him to extended travels and an internalized approach to lifelong learning.
Driven by curiosity, he started his professional career in Lisbon, Portugal, where he began to take photography seriously. After that he moved back to Germany to pursue a university degree in visual journalism and documentary photography.
His work is driven by a deep interest in understanding the human condition and the social systems we inhabit. He’s aiming to translate complex realities through honest and thoughtful storytelling— world is the playground.
He currently lives in Germany and is fluent in Italian, German and English. Advanced understanding of Spanish, Portuguese and a bit of French — mostly when ordering un cafè.
